Flat sawing (also called "slab cutting"), is the technique used to saw pavement, floors, roofs, bridge decks, dams and culverts.  Usually these surfaces are close to a horizontal plane.  New concrete requires flat sawing of joints.  Older concrete may require flat sawing to clean the joints.  Or flat sawing may be required for removing cracked or damaged slabs of concrete.
